It is important to realise that TAKT will NOT cure Freezing Gait. One complaint received was that people do not know exactly what is meant by 'freezing' – I can be forthright in saying that if you have it, you will know! It shows as the total inability to put one foot in front of the other and is brought on by approaching a door way or constriction in space or by change of the path from grass to gravel or other perceived obstruction.
TAKT generates a tick to which steps may be synchronised. I find that TAKT is best used by purposely slowing down the rate of steps, giving the mind the job of trying to step in time. Thus the stuttering steps become replaced by larger, slower movements. I have to concentrate on slowing the movement in each step which I do by lengthening the stride. It is necessary to record that TAKT is an aid – but you are involved in making it successful for you.

So, set the rate to slow and then try to get a movement (however small) of one foot then the other at the set rate: movement might be before or after the beat, but it is approximately synchronous. As you have set the rate to be slow, now concentrate on allowing use of the time between beats to take a larger step. Now you are unfrozen and can concentrate on keeping going.
